HomeAid begins construction of Covenant House
HomeAid Houston, a Greater Houston Builders Association charity, has begun construction on a remodel project that will make much needed improvements to Covenant House Texas (CHT) Crisis Shelter. The facility serves homeless youth.
HomeAid Houston helps build transitional housing for individuals facing homelessness with the help of donated labor, materials, services and funds to assist in construction. The companies and contractors who step up for each project are typically members of the GHBA. Since its inception in 2003, HomeAid has added 360 beds and provided care for 4,200 men, women and children.
HomeAid will be remodeling a portion of the CHT administration building that was built in the 1930s. Kenneth Charanza, president of Charanza Contracting Inc., the remodeler captain, and Leslie King, president of Greymark Construction Co. and HomeAid board members, are directing the project. Companies who are donating materials and services include: Airtron Houston, HVAC; Designer Stone, stone top for bathroom cabinet; Ellen Lighting and Hardware, fluorescent fixtures; G&C, demolition; BMC, 2x4s for framing; Kent Moore Cabinets; bathroom sink and cabinet; Ferguson, toilet; Mannington, laminate flooring; Price Pfister, faucet; Schwartz Electric, electrical work; and Sherwin-Williams, paint.
